Repeating tasks - wrong dates
B
Bec
I'm having some issues with repeating tasks not showing up on the correct schedule. For example, I had one task set to repeat every 2 weeks and one every 3 weeks. I completed them, and both are showing up in 1 week.

I'm having a similar issue. I have a task that is set to repeat every 3 weeks on a Friday. However, the task is repeating every Friday instead.

Similar thing here. I make a task for Aug 9th, set it to repeat every 2 days... so I'd expect to get a task on the 9th, 11th, 13th, etc. Instead, I get a task on the 8th(!), 9th, 10th, 12th, etc.
I tried it a few different ways and the pattern with 'every 2 days' seems to be: n-1, n, n+1, n+3, n+5 (where n = original date).
With 'every 4 days' I get n-1, n, n+3, n+7, etc.
So where it goes wrong is that it puts an extra task on the day BEFORE it is supposed to start, and then starts counting the days from that task onward, while also leaving the original task on the original date.

Hey Nienke are you seeing the exact same behavior on iOS and desktop?

Chris I just made a test task for today. Custom repeat set to 2 days. On macOS the task appears yesterday, today, tomorrow, and every other day from tomorrow onward. On iOS the same set of repeating tasks appears today and every other day from today onward (in other words, it show up how I would expect it to).
When I make the same task on iOS, it is also fine on iOS and wrong on macOS.
So iOS consistently does it correctly and macOS consistently does not.

Nienke ah got it, thanks for reporting. One more question, what timezone are you in?

Hi Chris, I'm afraid I'm still having issues with repeating tasks. I created a task starting this Sat, repeating "every 2 weeks on Sat". But it generates a new copy EVERY Sat. Has anyone else raised this issue?
Chris
Bec: Will check on this and report back today!
Chris
Bec moving this over to email!
Chris
Hey Bec happy to look into this!
- Is this on web, mobile or both?
- Does this only happen after you complete the task? So you have a recurring task that correctly shows up every 3 weeks and then once you complete it then it shows up in 1 week?
- If you refresh the page/reload the app, does the issue go away or persist?

Thanks Chris. I'm now having trouble reproducing this!! I created a couple of test tasks on web and mobile and they seem to be working ok. Very strange. Mind you, on web no future occurrences show at all, even when I mark them complete, refresh the page etc. They do show on mobile.
Chris
Bec: Hm very interesting,
So for new tasks things seem ok and future occurrences appear even on web?
But those old tasks aren't showing up future occurrences at all? But the old tasks are showing up on mobile?
Is that accurate?

Chris: No not quite... I deleted most of my old repeating tasks since they weren't working properly. Yesterday I created some test tasks, which seemed to be working ok - it's just that no future occurrences at all showed up on the web. But today I've just tried again, and they're not working quite right again. For example, on web I just created one to repeat every 2 days starting today, and I got one instance yesterday, today and tomorrow and then every 2 days after that.

I thought it could be something to do with timezones but I checked and my PC does have the right date/time

I also created one to repeat every 2 weeks from today (Wed 23 Aug where I am) and if I look 2 weeks ahead to Wed 6 Sep it doesn't show up (nor do any other repeating tasks), even if I mark today's task complete

Bec
That's on web - it DOES show up on mobile
Chris
Bec: Looking into this!
I think it has to do with some of the changes to the new month view, I had to re-write a few things to help accommodate it and it likely broke the recurring tasks on web.
Will report back soon!
Chris
Hey Bec I think I got the issue sorted 🤞
New update out (3.5.1) on web and Mac, could you give it a try and let me know if you still have issues?

Chris: Amazing - thank you! I’ve been so flat out at work I haven’t really had a chance to test - but will over the weekend
